Don's been hacking around again!

We always like getting hacks from customers and this simple little hack really turned out great!

Don Harding used 3 different projects to create this layout for a farrier service:

The sign is 5/8" x 4" x 11 1/2" made from black walnut and finished with matte Rust-Oleum Painters Touch.  He used a font called Narkism and painted black to have the lettering stand out.

"Having different Packages Is Wonderful for the HACKS"

Thanks again Don for sharing your work with us!

Rob Meredith - Customer Focus

Rob sent us in this wonderful image of a finished project he made in honor of a very special friend he recently lost.  This arrived in out in box just before the Holidays in 2015.

"(I) used elements from the Furry Friends No.1 and the Golden Retriever from Vector Art 3D.  I lost my dog this last weekend and wanted to to make something for him.  I used Yellow heart wood for my project."

"As for the plaque I made it was made on a Laguna Swift 4X4 CNC machine with Aspire 8. "

"As for the finish techniques I used
Amana Tool 46384 Solid Carbide Double Flute Up-Cut Ball Nose Spiral 1/2 Dia x 2-1/8 Cut Height x 1/2 Shank x 4 Inch Long Router Bit,
Amana Tool 46282 CNC 2D and 3D Carving 5.4 Deg Tapered Angle Ball Tip 1/16 Dia x 1/32 Radius x 1 Cut Height x 1/4 Shank x 3 Inch Long x 4 Flute Solid Carbide ZrN Coated Router Bit,
Amana Tool 46390 CNC Solid Carbide Compression Spiral 1/4 Dia x 7/8 Cut Height x 1/4 Shank x 2-1/2 Inch Long Single Flute Router Bit,
3M Radial Bristle Discs and up to 220 grit sandpaper,
then I applied Watco natural Danish Oil. The wood was 8/4 Yellowheart wood."

Rob your finished project is a perfectly finished piece and a fitting reminder of such a wonderful companion.  Thank you for taking the time to send this in to us.

Thanks again Rob for sharing this heartfelt project with us and so sorry for you loss.

Larry Breaux - Customer Focus

"The videos are in my opinion the 2nd best thing about your site, right after the projects."

Thanks Larry, and we feel the best thing about our site is the inspiration we get from customer project submissions... just like yours!

"The material is some 1” oak I had leftover from previous projects. I operate an AXYZ 5012 at my place of employment along with Aspire 4.5, typically I play with personal projects after hours here and there."

"Most of the time my regular work is strictly 2d and I don’t get the opportunity to venture into 3d work too often.  I can make short work of most tasks with the software in my normal day to day work but the 3d stuff is a little more challenging and that’s why I decided to try one of your projects. You can’t get good at chess playing checkers all the time."

"The finish is Minwax Sedona Red that I had laying around. Future projects will receive Red Mahogany per my wife’s request. Then just 2 coats of some spray bomb clear satin from Home Depot. Total machine time was about 1.5 hours with the small fleur di lis in the corners. I used a .25” end mill for the roughing, a .125” tapered ball nose for the finishing pass, and a 60° V-bit for the lettering. Font used for lettering is Century."

Larry's layout is a hack using models from the Home for the Holidays No.2 and the Dish Shapes No.2 CNC project.  This is a great example how you can take one of our holiday themed projects and make something you can use every day of the year!

"Thanks again for all the work you put into making this so user friendly and accessible."

Thanks again Larry for sharing this project with us!
