Harry and Kendra Squier are Hacking it up!

The Squier's have caught our attention again with a couple of project images they sent in over the last few months!  

 

"The project was carved with radiata pine on our Shapeoko3. We finished it with a variety of Varathane wood stains. The hammered metal area is Rustoleum pewter paint and the whole thing has brown glazing over it to add depth and detail to the colors. Finally a couple of coats of Zinser shellac to seal it."

The use of all of the fall colors of stain realy make this project a winner!!

 

"Here's a wreath we did from the holiday packages with the banner from the Thanksgiving pack."

What a great rustic finish it really gives the project a nice character. Hacking the models from the Home for the Holidays No.1 and The Thanksgiving No.1 projects gives a new meaning to a seasonal project.

"We are having so much fun with the project packs."

That is what we like to hear!!!  It sure looks like you guys are having a great time.

John Vasquez you are "Weekend CNC Warrior" Approved!

We are pretty excited to see people using our mini-projects with all sorts of CNC machines from the industrial sized monsters, DIY machines and upgraded kit machines.  John was one of the first we heard of using the ShapeOko 2 CNC, Aspire and our mini-projects to create his weekend CNC projects.

John used the Mothers Garden No.1 mini-project to help make this wonderful finished piece.

"CNC Machine used was a Shapeoko 2 with a DW660 router with upgraded ACME Z Axis and Dual Y Axis Drive with a custom 3D Printed Dust shoe.

  1. Used Aspire to lay out the design and generate tool path's took approximately 1.5hours
  2. Ran the rough cust with a 1/4" end mill approximate time 2 hours
  3. Ran the Finish cut what a 1/16" ball nose approximate time 3.5 hours
  4. Ran the Vcarve lettering with 90deg Vbit approximate time 10 minutes
  5. Ran the Profile cut with a 1/4" end mill approximate time 20 minutes

Sign was cut into 3/4" pine and air brushed with Opaque auto paint for durability and coated with 5 coats of spray on Shellac."

John was nice enough to supply some work in progress snaps too help illustrate his work flow. 

What a great finished piece and we are pretty sure it was very well received!
