Hack of the Week No.92

"Dreams don't work unless you do."

With the school year 1/2 over you might need to spread a bit of old "school" motivation.

This "School Room" plaque was created using models from these projects:

The fonts we used to simulate the v-carving are called:

  • Gabriola, Garamond, Gabriola Italic, Javanese Text, Impact

Update - March 4th, 2016

We opened our email today to find this great finished version of this Hack of the Week from James Patton!

"Carved this one for the wife’s classroom. (she teaches avid, kind of like college prep classes), She loved it.
Carved in brown maple, Turned out to be about an 11” x 16” project. We liked the white of the maple, I decided to just put a few coats of semi gloss on it and not stain it at all. The lettering I think I did in Royal Blue..
Thanks for another great hack..."

What a nice job and we sure are glad she liked it!!

Note - This hack was assembled in Aspire V8 for presentation purposes.  It could have been done in VCarve Pro V8 or VCarve Desktop.

Hack of the Week No.85

School is back in after the holidays and it won't be too long before in school fundraising will begin... again.  Nothing like a good old popcorn sale to get the second half of the year off to a great start.  Change up the V-Carving and this would make a great media room sign!

This "Popcorn Sale" sign layout was created using models from these CNC projects:

The font we used to simulate the v-carving on this layout was called: Palatino Linotype

Our first Medical Professional themed CNC project is here!

Caduceus - One Possible Layout

Rod of Asclepius - Another possible layout

If you are looking for medical help one of the first symbols you look for is made up of two intertwined snakes wrapping around a staff with a set of wings.  This is know as a "caduceus" and has been mistakenly adopted as the universal symbol for a medical professional.

Historically speaking, the "Rod of Asclepius" should have been the layout.  With it's one snake wrapped around a staff it should be more prominently "associated with healing and medicine" and is in some cases.

In order to keep everyone happy we have included all of the parts to make either symbol in one project. They are not limited to that, so have fun hacking the models together with ones in other projects or models in your library.
